**FINAL EDIT Thu Dec 10 02:15:47 UTC 2009**

So there is the final update... Over the past day we have processed around 11 million jobs out of the 12 million that were in queue at that time. Please bear in mind that over this past day, more jobs for notifications are also created. So while the queue has been dropping, we are still not fully caught up at this point, due to backlog and new jobs. We have roughly 3 million jobs still pending that involve the notification system in some manner. We had hoped we could have fully cleared the queue in a day, but unfortunately we can't clear it too quickly, since we need the rest of the site to operate normally. From our current perspective on the amount of jobs that are left in queue, and how many it has processed thus far, we believe it will take around another 8 - 12 hours to process everything.

And finally some answers to some questions:

Oh HAI There! My lovely puppy [info]dogorcuton has his own Postcrossing account, and he's received cards from a lot of other pets as well. Mind you, some pets have silly names and some people - well!

So here's your chance to try and work out who is who in the Postcrossing world. Guess which is the Person's account, and which is the pet's. No cheating - no looking them up. If the profile says something like "Hi, I'm a 30 year old accountant" and it's called "fluffyfeet", then it's the person. If it says "I am the most ADORABLE guinea pig on Postcrossing and I LOVE cards with lettuce or carrots!" then it's the pet.

So, which is which. Note that some of these are just people without pets who prefer the cute and fluffy names :-)
It is a bit long, so I'll put it behind a cut. )

Give a little to help a lot!

In honor of National AIDS Awareness month, we've added a new charitable vgift. For each red ribbon you purchase for $2.99, we'll donate 100 percent of gross proceeds to IAVI.org (the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative) to support the development and global distribution of an affordable HIV vaccine (we'll cover credit card fees). You can read more about IAVI at [info]lj_cares. While we're on the subject, we raised $740 from our November fundraiser for Love Without Boundaries, which supports emergency healthcare and adoption of Chinese orphans. We thank you for helping us help others.

We're back with more incredible pictures from our super-talented LiveJournal photographers. Congratulations to [info]ilya_gorokhov, who is the winner of our very first [info]lj_photophile poll.

We hope you'll continue to post, vote, and comment! A gentle request: Please post only one photo at a time and limit size to 350x350 (so images display properly on friends pages). And now, without further ado, get ready to cast your ballot and view more awesome user content after the jump!

**EDIT Thu Dec 3 23:24:15 UTC 2009 **

Hey Everyone, we are about to run the last alter job that we need to on our database servers. This will effect userpics / scrapbook / vgift images for the next few hours. Have no fear, your images aren't lost, there is just a really intensive process running on the servers which store the information for mogilefs. Thank you for your understanding and all the LJ love...

Hey LJers,

I just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be performing some mogilefs maintenance over the next few days. We will be upgrading our current version to latest stable as well as changing some db config information to better handle the amount of files we are currently hosting. This shouldn't cause a big impact on site stability, but you may see some minor delays with userpic / scrapbook images appearing or other requests associated with our mogilefs. We would love to not have that happen, but unfortunately with some of the steps we need to take we have to cause a delay with images. I figured this was a better solution than taking down all of LiveJournal because well lets face it, we all need our daily LJ fix ;)

Thanks,

What do you do when one of your cards is in transit over 3 weeks / a month? I usually send a polite inquiry, asking whether my card has been received. Sometimes the recipient simply forgets to register, and that little reminder of mine jogs their memory. Other times they say "no, I haven't got it", and then I resend. Usually the second card makes it to its destination. Still, there are those cases when my note remains unanswered. The user simply ignores his or her mail. What do you think is the best course of action in those cases? Resend the card? Wait a little longer?

I'm not trying to spam the community, but I just found another maybe interesting little thing... the absolutely saddest, saddest profile ever.
This breaks my postcrossing-heart:
Photobucket

I know the algorithms of postcrossing can be weird, and I noticed sometimes a member has received one card more as he/she has received.
But this one striked me: (not my own profile)
Photobucket

3 cards received more as sent... I find that a lot. Where was the balance when this members adress came up from the random database, I wonder?

Also very remarkable: my boyfriend is a very slow postcrosser- he sents 5, waits till all 5 have arrived and he has received 5 cards... and then he sends 5 new ones. And every time he did this, he received 6 instead of 5. So now he has sent 15 cards and received 18.
Very nice of course, but... WTF?

On the other hand, my own send-received balance is way out of line too. I've sent 12 cards more as I received, at the moment. I guess somewhere a large bulk of mail must be stuck for me.
I'm a member now for 5 months and have sent 65 cards. Are there more people with this? And when you're a member for much longer and have sent much more, the numbers are even more outweighed, I guess?

I was away from home for three weeks (packing up the old house) and my husband sent me the card IDs so that I could register them properly.

So now I'm home and trying to send a personal thanks for the cards (I enjoy doing this. People have taken the trouble to find amazing cards for me so I really ought to thank them properly). And I send about 10 "thanks" and then I get

You can't send more messages today.

Mind you, after an hour's break I could send one more, so I imagine it's a timed response. But DAMMIT I WANT TO SEND ALL THE MESSAGES NOW!

*sulk*

(I've done 10 of Cuton's too, and hit the same problem)

Oh well. I suppose I should do other things now instead. Like housework. Bleugh.
